Funeral services for Yoshio David Mukai, 80, of Junction City will be Monday, March 21, 2005, 11a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Fort Riley Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Mukai passed away March 16, 2005 at his residence. Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran ELCA Church, Building Fund, 212 N. Eisenhower Dr., Junction City, Kansas 66441 and/or Homecare & Hospice, 323 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
Mr. Mukai was born September 10, 1924, in Wailuku, Maui, HI, son of TsuneJiro and Mitsumi Mukai. He graduated from Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Maui, HI in 1942. Mr. Mukai joined the Army October 8, 1944. He served in VietNam and the Korean War and retired May 31, 1965. Mr. Mukai later worked for civil service at the Fort Riley Commissary for 20 years. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran ELCA Church.
He married Brunhilde L. Sierakowski July 24, 1948 in Iringshausen (Kassel), Germany; she survives of the home.
Other survivors include his three sons, George D. Mukai of Tacoma, WA, Thomas W. Mukai of Wichita, KS, and Daniel R. Mukai of Williamsport, IN; one brother, Shigeru Mukai of HI; one sister; Peggy Takeuchi of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Laeli; and sister, Betty Castro.
Pallbearers will be provided by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
