Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church for Winona "Grace" Ross Berges, 93, Junction City, Kansas. Reverend Joyce Allen will officiate. Mrs. Berges passed away Monday, November 20, 2006, at the Geary Community Hospital. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service at the Onaga Cemetery in Onaga, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church 804 North Jefferson Street or to the Alterra Sterling House of Junction City 1022 Caroline Ave. both of Junction City, Kansas 66441. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Berges was born April 13, 1913, in Emmett, Kansas the daughter of Stephen W. and Margaret E. (DeVolld) Ross.
Grace taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Pottawatomie County prior to her marriage. During World War II, she worked at Marshall Field at Fort Riley. She held bookkeeping positions at the Geary County Clerk's Office and Waters Hardware Store in Junction City, Kansas. She later entered a lengthy career with the Federal Government at Fort Riley having retired as a Budget Analyst.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Melita Chapter of the O.E.S. Chapter # 116 both of Junction City, Kansas.
She married Arlo M. Berges July 5, 1940, in Seneca, Kansas. He passed away December 14, 2002.
Survivors include one brother Stephen W. Ross of Woodbridge, Virginia; four nieces, Judy McFerron Pascarelli of Olathe, Kansas, Stephanie Ross of Walnut Creek, California, Rebecca Ross Albers of Chantilly, Virginia and Jennifer Ross Bealey of Fairfax, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arlo M. Berges, two sisters, Wilma Ross McFerron and Fern Ross Taylor and two nieces Sandi and Linda McFerron.
