Wilma J. Cooke, 83, of Junction City, KS passed away at Geary Community Hospital on June 4, 2013. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Laurie Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Wreford Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street. Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson, Junction City, KS 66441.
Wilma was born January 15, 1930, White City, KS on the family farm to Paul F. and Inis V. (Barber) Evans weighing only 2 lbs. 14oz. She worked as a clerk at Duckwall (ALCO) from 1949 to 1954 and in 1976 she went to work at Dairy Queen until 1992 and in 1986 became a Mary Kay Consultant and Wilma was also a licensed day care provider for as many years as her kids can remember.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board of Nimble Fingers. Wilma was an avid quilter and a past member of the Monday night quilter's and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and a Girl Scout Leader.
She married William E. Cooke March 4, 1951 he preceded her in death November 12, 2011.
Wilma is survived by her daughter, Cynthia King (Lawrence) of Shalimar, FL, her son, Stacey Cooke (Laurie) of Junction City, KS, her sister Pauline Adolph of Manhattan, KS, her brother Lowell Evans (Pauline) of White City, KS, Grandchildren; Jason King of Destin, FL, Maranda King-Alcares of Shalimar, FL, Bethany Cooke (Adam), Katie Kidwell (Brandon) and Briana Cooke (Kenny Talley) all of Junction City, KS.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren; Ashton King-Alcares and Emma Ritchie both of Shalimar, FL, Lacey Kidwell, Miles Kidwell and Callen Cooke all of Junction City, KS and one step-great-granddaughter, Cara Clementz of Denison, IA.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Clayton Cooke and her sister, Lola Leonard.
