Willis C. Kiefer, 87, of Junction City, died April 19, 2017 at Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan. Willis was born May 7, 1929 in Norton, KS, the son of Xavier and Hazel Bliss Kiefer.
He attended schools in Wheaton, Kansas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.
After he was discharged from the U.S. Army, he worked for Union Pacific Railroad working as a track repairman. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Willis married Delia R. Demars on April 21, 1955 in Junction City. Delia died Sept. 19, 2011. Survivors include: 3 sons, Wayne Heller and his wife Roxie, and Xavier Kiefer and his wife Catherine, all of Junction City, and Terry Heller and his wife Sue, Old Fort, North Carolina; 2 daughters, Jenny Noah and her husband Don, Olathe, and Deborah Yelton and her husband Gary, Auxvasse, Missouri; a brother, Wayne Kiefer and his wife Carolyn, Wichita Falls, Texas; and a sister, Leota Heubert, Halstead; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren. Willis was preceded in death by a son, Larry Heller and 2 sisters, Alice Terry and Ana Mae Thompson; and a grandson, Gary Yelton, Jr.
It was Willis' wish to be cremated.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Junction City Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
