Willie Mae Smith, 75, of Augusta, GA (formerly of Junction City), passed away February 1, 2005 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Funeral will be Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 1 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Leonard F. Gray officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Medical College of Georgia, 1120 15th St., Augusta, GA 30912.
Mrs. Smith was born September 11, 1929 in Boynton, Okla, daughter of Will and Annie (Vonhook) Fowlkes. She was a bus driver for USD 475 for seven years and later worked as a laundry mat attendant at the 14th and Washington Laundromat.
Mrs. Smith married Johnie H. Smith, Sr. December 4, 1946 in Muskogee, Okla; he preceded her in death September 27, 1986.
She was a member of the First Church of God and was baptized there in February 1967. Mrs. Smith especially enjoyed walking.
Survivors include one son, Tony Smith of Augusta, GA; three daughters, Doris Thompson and husband Anthony of Augusta, GA, Rosemarie Smith and Susan Smith both of Junction City; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; her dear friend and confidant, Maydell Roland; special friend, Nelson Morris of Enterprise, AL; and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Fowlkes; one daughter, Shirley; and one son, Johnie Smith, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Vincent X. Smith, Joseph A. Hammond, Tashon L. Smith, Johnie D. Smith, Derrick Jacobs Smith, and Cheiron N. Hammond.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jessie J. Watkins and James Smith.
