Willie Sue Cunningham

January 16, 1959 — April 11, 2021

Willie Sue Cunningham, 62, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, MO. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Jones officiating. A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Johnson Funeral Home.

Willie Sue was born one of six children January 16, 1959, the daughter of Jack and Morden (Zackery) Cunningham.

She moved to Junction City, KS in 1979.

She was a native Ashland, AL and was educated in the Clay County and Ashland, AL School System. She confessed hope in Christ at a young age and was a baptized and confirmed member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Willie Sue was an accomplished professional cook. She worked and retired as a cook from Geary Community Hospital. She was known in her neighborhood as a caregiver feeding and caring for many children. Many of these children still to this day, call her "Mom". One of the most important rewards she received in her lifetime was time spent working as a volunteer at Second Missionary Baptist Church. The reward was for putting love over all with her caring virtues of clothing, feeding, kindness, humanity, gentleness and patience for effectively "sowing seeds" for God's Kingdom.

Survivors include one son, Gary Cunningham of Junction City, KS; one granddaughter, Tashianna Boatman of Detroit, MI; one brother, Michael Cunningham of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Sandra Cunningham of Harvest, AL, Nellie Buchanan and Rita Cunningham both of Huntsville, Al; nephews, Joe Buchanan, Larry Buchanan, Daniel Cunningham, Dwjuan Cunningham and Michael Cunningham, JR; nieces, Monica Buchanan, Swayla Buchanan, Niama Buchanan, Aerial Swain, Mallory Cunningham and Morgan Wilson; six great nephews and nieces; one uncles Grady Zachary; five aunts, Helen Zachary, Rebecca Zachary, Willie Ruth Zachary, Nannie Cunningham and Betty Cunningham; forty additional first and second cousins; Her second family living in Junction City, Tina Nichols and Family, John Ziegenhirt and Family, Beverly Wilder and Family, Larry McDonald and Family, local neighbor Jimmy and Family, Pauline's Daycare and her Family; close friends in Alabama, Robert Swain, David Zachary, Rodney Zachary, Patrick Zachary, Allison Zachary, Connie Faye Wilson, Beverly Zachary, Carolyn Zachary, Rick and Tina Fews, Travis Zachary, Mary Welch and Family; Dylan and Dakota Jones; Jaelah and King Cunningham

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Zummatto Cunningham; her father Jack Cunningham; grandmother Myrtis Zachary; one brother, Jerome Cunningham; uncle James Cunningham; aunts, Ora Lee Cunningham, Josephine Cunningham, Bobbie Jean Zachary; host of cousins and other relatives.
