SFC (Retired) William Claude McLaughlin, 79, of Junction City, died Sunday, June 30, 2019 at his daughter's home in Windsor, Colorado.
William was born July 25, 1939 at Chickasha, Oklahoma, the son of Thurman C. & Vera M. (Clark) McLaughlin. He started his schooling in Oklahoma, but his family moved to Oregon, and he finished high school in Portland, Oregon. He entered the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school, and spent over 20 years in the military. He was honorably discharged in October, 1978 at Ft. Riley.
After his discharge from the military, he worked for many years at Walker Stone Co.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Chapel on Ft. Riley.
William married Hannelore Urth on October 25, 1963 in Erlangen, Germany. Hannelore died November 4, 2016.
Survivors include: a son, Tom McLaughlin, Wichita; a daughter, Belinda Jellison, Windsor, Colorado; and 3 granddaughters, Morgan (Zach) Jellison, Ashley Jellison, and Sara Jellison. William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hannelore; and a brother, Carl L. McLaughlin, Portland, Oregon.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan. Full military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning, prior to the funeral service, at the Johnson Funeral Home, Junction City.
