Services for State Representative William (Bill) J. Levinson,76,of Junction City,KS will be held Thursday, October 10, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at the City of Junction City Municipal Building. Pastor Darel Boston of the First Christian Church. Bill died October 7, 2002 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, 2002, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mass-Hinitt Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Junction City, KS with full Military Honors. Memorial Designations: Buffalo Soldier Memorial Fund, c/o City of Junction City, P.O. Box 287, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Local Firefighter's Association, #3309, P.O. Box 1281,Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Joint City/County Law Enforcement Memorial Fund 210 E. 9th, Junction City, KS 66441. Bill was born January 13, 1926, Junction City, KS to Benjamin and Bertha (Brikel) Levinson. He Graduated from Junction City High School and then attended Kansas State University. Bill married Inge Klein, July 23, 1958 in Nebraska, she survives of the home. Bill served in the U S Navy during World War II and in the U S Army during the Korean War with the 7th Division. He retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation after 30 years. He served as a City Commissioner from 1995 to December 2001, serving as Mayor from 1997-1998. He became State Representative for the 65th District in 2000. Bill was a member of Isis Shriner's of Salina, member of the American Legion Post #45 and the Masonic Lodge #7. He started the fund drive to establish the Geary County Historical Society Museum, he was instrumental with the downtown revitalization of Junction City, KS as well as helping to achieve the Buffalo
Soldier Monument. Bill was band leader of his own band and played saxophone and piano. He coordinated a car show for 25 years in Junction City.
Survivors: One Son; Ben and Kelly Levinson of Salina, KS, One Daughter; Ingrid and Carl M. Bierbaum of Florida, Three Grandchildren; Gabriel Levinson, Diana and Keith Hager and Carl W. and Renee Bierbaum. He was preceded in death by his Parents and One Brother; Eddie. Casket bearers: Patrolman Mike Jefferson and SGT Mark Roberts of the Junction City Police Department, LT Matt Jackson and Firefighter EMT Mike Steinfort of the Junction City Fire Department, CPT Rudy Goetsch of the Geary County Sheriffs Department and State Trooper Nate Sparks.
