William O. "Bill" Hood, 91, of White City, Kansas, passed away on November 13, 2016 at Abilene Memorial Hospital. Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, of Junction City, Kansas, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
A Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 21, 2016, 11:00 am, at the White City Cemetery, S. 2200 Road, White City, KS 66872, with Pastor Bob Strom officiating.
Bill was born on April 29, 1925 in Pilot Mountain, North Carolina to Martin and Grace (Weirich) Hood. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He served on an LST during World War II as a Fireman First Class. On June 23, 1946, he married Wanda VanMeter, in Wichita, KS. They moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where Bill trained to be a welder. Afterward, Bill and Wanda settled on a family farm just north of White City. He worked in Civil Service at Fort Riley for thirty years. After his retirement from Civil Service, he continued farming and creating yard art from old farm machinery. Bill's favorite dessert was apple pie. His loving wife would make it for him. He loved to fish when he could. Bill worked very hard all his life to provided and care for his wife and five children.
Bill is survived by his two sons, Richard (Mitzi) Hood of Manhattan, KS, William (Denise) Hood of Regina, Saskatchewan-Canada; three daughters, Carolle (John) Stinson of Clarksville, VA, Vicky (Ron) Ohm of Spring Branch, TX, and Jennifer Jordan of Minneapolis, MN; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Hood, and parents, Martin and Grace Hood.
