A Mass of Christian Burial for William F. "Bill" Walsh, Jr., 67, Milford, Kansas will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Walsh passed away Friday, December 8, 2006, at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel with the parish rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Caner Society, Heartland Division, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64105.
Mr. Walsh was born October 24, 1939 in New Hyde Park, NY to William F. and Anna (Hovendon) Walsh, Sr. He attended St. Francis Xavier High School in Manhattan, New York City graduating in 1957. From there he went to the University of Detroit where he met the love of his life, Barbara Agnes Payne. They were married in 1962 and soon thereafter he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army.
In his army career he was stationed in Mainz, West Germany where his daughter Colleen was born. From there he moved to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Delaware where his son Patrick was born. His first tour of duty in Vietnam was 1967-1968. He returned to duty in Vietnam from 1970-1971. Captain Walsh received many commendations for his services to his country including the Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, First Class; National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Senior Parachute Badge, Sharpshooter, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with "V" device and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star (second award), the Vietnam Service medal with one Silver Star and one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart.
Captain Walsh was also stationed at Ft. Benning, GA where his son Kevin was born and Ft. Hood, TX. While stationed at Ft. Riley, KS Bill's wife became ill with cancer. He decided to remain in the Junction City area so that his children could maintain the stability of school and friends. His three children are all pioneers of St. Xavier's schools. Bill opened up a stock brokerage and insurance store at 820 N. Washington and has been at that location for 28 years. During this time, he completed his masters in Science from the University of Southern California.
Bill is survived by his father, William Walsh, Sr. of Brooklyn, NY. Bill's three children, Colleen MacAdam of Kansas City, MO, Patrick Walsh of Tavernier, FL and Kevin Walsh of Kansas City, KS continue to flourish. Bill has one grandchild, Brynna Barbara MacAdam and two step-grandchildren TJ MacAdam and Erin MacAdam of Kansas City. Bill's in-laws Weldon and Ora Payne still reside in Rice Lake, WI.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his mother Anna, his aunts Katherine and Mamie and his uncle Nick.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Thibodeaux, Kenneth MacAdam, Patrick Walsh, Kevin Walsh, Thomas James MacAdam and Dave MacAdam.
