William Brown, SSG., U.S. Army (Retired), 88, of Humble, Tx., formerly of Junction City, died May 31, 2013 at the Kingwood Medical Center, in Kingwood, Tx. He was born the sixth of ten siblings in March of 1925 in Hughs, Arkansas, the son of Albert & Delilah Brown. After finishing school, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he later joined the U.S. Army in 1945. He served in the Korean Conflict, two tours in Europe, and four state side bases before retiring in 1966 and settling down in Junction City.
William married Tressie L. Henderson on Aug. 12, 1967. She preceded him in death in January, 2002. Survivors include 2 sons, Leonard R. Henderson (Michelle), and Bryant Henderson (Kathy); 3 daughters, Nan Dabney, Charlette Byrd, and Bonnie Stallworth (Johnny); a sister, Autry Arbor; 2 sisters-in-law, Willie Brown and Gaither Brown; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives, 3 grandchildren, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 nieces, and 3 nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Junction City. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Ft. Riley Cemetery with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family will greet friends on Sunday, June 9, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N.
