Wilda L. Connell, 93, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan, KS. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library.
Wilda was born August 24, 1926, in Minneapolis, KS the daughter of Dr. Carl McLain and Hilda Velma (Burkholder) Vermillion.
Wilda graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1944. After high school, she attended the University of Kansas. She later graduated from Kansas State University with her BA and MA. Wilda and her husband Joel owned and operated the Dixie Caramel Candy Store located on Washington Street in Junction City. She later had a Civil Service Career working at Fort Riley. Her hobby and interest was exploring genealogy and was an avid reader. She served on the Board at the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library for many years. She also was a knitter making many Christmas stockings for friends and family. Wilda also belonged to several bridge clubs.
She married Joel R. Connell June 2, 1946 in Junction City, KS. He passed away November 15, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Connell and his wife Karen of Junction City, KS; two daughters, Linda K. Kramer and her husband LeRoy of Junction City, KS and Rebecca (Becky) Bourland and husband Roger of Cordillera, CO; two grandchildren, Loren and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Ma Kaila, Tegan and Simone
She was preceded in death by her son William "Brad" Connell, husband Joel and sister Joan Crawford.
