Funeral service for Wilber S. Morris, 75, of Junction City, will be Monday, July 25, 2005, 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Jim Bond and Mickey Zoretic officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, July 24, 2005, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Morris passed away July 20, 2005 at the Chapman Valley Manor. Memorial contributions may be given to the Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 1487, Junction City, KS 66441 and/or Chapman Valley Manor, P.O. Box 219, Chapman, KS 67431.

Mr. Morris was born July 13, 1930, in Ames, OK, the son of William H. and Faye E. (Durgan) Morris. He graduated from Lacey (Oklahoma) High School in 1948. In the fall of 1948, he attended Central College in McPherson, KS for two years. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military career, he went back to college and earned his bachelor's degree from Greenville College, Greenville, IL and his master's degree from Emporia State University.

He married Janice Easterling on June 26, 1959, in Woods County, OK; she survives of the home.

Mr. Morris taught in Matfield Green, KS from 1959-1962. He joined the Junction City School System in 1962; serving as physical education instructor and coach at the Junction City Junior High School. In 1976, he became the assistant principal at Fort Riley Middle School; continuing there until his retirement in 1996. At that time, the Wilber Morris Community Service Award was started in his honor. He received the Shining Star Award from the Geary County Unified Schools. Mr. Morris was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, receiving the Distinguished Service Award for his service on the church board for 40 years. He also taught Sunday School classes and was in the choir. He was a member of the Kawinis Club and the Junction City Association of Retired School Personnel.

Survivors include his wife, Jan of the home; one daughter, Marcia Bingham of Olathe; one son, Mark Morris and his wife Kendra of Warrensburg, MO; one brother, Lee Morris of Amarillo, TX; five sisters, Wanda Hatfield of Aurora, MO, Dorothy Jean Kennedy of Enid, OK, Joy Morris of Marsing, ID, Edith Willey of Enid, OK and Yvonne Carrison of LaVista, NE; three grandchildren, Evan, Kaelyn and Claire Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roy Morris, and one sister, Glendora Rogers.

Music will be provided by a pianist Carolyn Engholm, organist Marilyn Rothfuss, soloist Wanda Hart and the singing trio of Raymond Hart, and Tim and Becky Marks.

Casket bearers will be Larry Almstrom, Brad Angell, Terry Engholm, Al Ferguson, Darrell Rothfuss and Jack Salzman.

Honorary casket bearers will be Arnold Carlton, Verl Case, Joe Handlos, Bill Kelley, Paul Rothfuss and Lee Sharpe.

Fort Riley honor guard will provide the military honors and James Eiserman will play the trumpet at the graveside.
