Ret (SFC) Wayne Standlee, 58, of Junction City entered into his eternal rest September 5, 2012. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Geary Community Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441 and to the Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.
Wayne was born November 17, 1954, in Santa Rosa, CA to the late Earline (Hendon) and Bob Standlee. Wayne was preceded in death by his sisters Bobby Irene Standlee and Deborah Ann Standlee and his brother Bobby Gene Standlee.
Wayne was raised in the great state of Texas and grew up attending schools in Lannius, Bonham, and graduated from Dodd City High School in 1973. After high school, Wayne immediately volunteered for the United States Army and served his country for over twenty years with tours in Germany, Korea and Fort Riley, KS, and was a veteran of Desert Storm having served in Kuwait. Wayne also worked as a mechanic for the State of Kansas for 12 years.
Wayne was a kind gentle soul and he loved his family and enjoyed the little things in life. Family was the most important thing to Wayne and he loved spending time just talking and laughing with them. He adored his granddaughter Madi and will always be remembered as her Opa.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Christine, his son, Patrick Standlee, his daughter, Angela Thompson (Cody), and a granddaughter Madison Thompson all of Junction City, KS. Wayne is also survived by brothers; Larry T. Standlee of Windom, TX, Terry Standlee of Magnolia, TX, Steve Standlee of Bonham, TX, Travis Standlee of Bonham, TX, Sisters; Freda Smith of Pilot Point, TX, Wanda Barr of Aiken, SC, Lila Smith of Vaucluse, SC, Judy Bridges (John) of Ivanhoe, TX and twenty one nieces and nephews. Wayne loved all his nieces and nephews but he was particularly close to Shellia Marie Synovec (Scott) of Fort Worth, TX.
