A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel 805 Caroline Ave. for Warren G. Chalk, 74, Junction City, Kansas. Pastor Matthew Glasgow will officiate. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Mr. Chalk passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007, at Geary Community Hospital. Memorial contributions may be given to the Geary Community Hospice & Home Health Care c/o Geary Community Health Care Foundation P.O. Box 3015 Junction City, Kansas or to the First Presybterian Church 113 W. 5th Street Junction City or to the Friends of Animals P.O. Box 580 Junction City, Kansas.
Warren was born July 19, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Edwin G. and Nola M. (Renfro) Chalk. He has lived in Junction City since 1988.
Warren was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served two tours in Korea, three tours in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1988 after serving 27 years. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Elks and the AUSA. His interests included the military, target shooting, coins and history. He was a family man, who was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
He married Ellen E. Harris November 2, 1974 in Colonial Heights, Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in Junction City, one son, Jerry L. Chalk of Kemp, Texas; two daughters, Michele M. Gettler of Topeka and Melissa L. Gavin of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Carol Aquero of Lafayette, Co; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jay and Callie Chalk; Alexis and Jake Gavin; Brooke and Blake Gettler; and one great grandson Hayden Chalk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one nephew.
