Wanda L. Hood, 85, of White City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at the Parkerville Baptist Church 407 Parkerville Street Parkerville, KS 66872. A luncheon will follow the memorial service at 12 Noon. Pastor Steve Strom will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be given to the Parkerville Baptist Church.
Wanda was born August 7, 1931, in Nardin, OK, the daughter of James and Nettie (McCulle) VanMeter. Wanda was the youngest of seven children. In her younger years, the family relocated to White City, KS.
Wanda married William Oliver Hood June 23, 1946, in Wichita, KS. After a brief settling in Hutchinson, KS, Bill and Wanda settled on a family farm just north of White City. Wanda was a fiercely independent spirit with a quick wit and an inquisitive mind. She worked as a tax preparer for H & R Block for many years.
Survivors include her husband Bill of Enterprise, KS; five children, Carolle and John Stinson of North Carolina, Richard and Mitzi Hood of Manhattan, KS, Vicky and Ron Ohm of Spring Branch, TX, William and Denise Hood of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and Jennifer Jordan of Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dove Cremation & Funeral Service, of Junction City, KS, is handling arrangements.
