Walter "Sonny" Harrison Preston Jr., 80, of South Texas, passed away on September 16, 2016 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS. Dove Cremation and Funeral Service, of Junction City, KS, is assisting the family with arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held September 30, 2016 at 8:00 PM, at the Veterans MC Ch.2 Clubhouse, 1040 Grant Ave., Junction City, KS, 66441.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jose Wejebe Spanish Fly Memorial Foundation, 22970 Overseas Hwy, Summerland Key, FL 33042 (http://www.josewejebefoundation.org/donate/) or Children's Mercy Clinics at GCH, c/o Geary Community Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 3015, Junction City, KS 66441.
Sonny was born on October 17, 1935, in New Braunsfels, Texas to Walter and Nancy (Childress) Preston. He grew up in Texas and joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age. After his time in the Navy, he joined the United States Air Force. Sonny retired after over 20 of honorable service.
After his retirement, he and his family resided in Altus, Oklahoma.
Walter is survived by his loving family: his Four Sons, Brent E. and wife Earlene Stone of Altus, OK, Travis D. Preston of Oklahoma City, OK, Benny J. and wife Tina Preston of Tyler, TX, and Leonard Kyle and Dianna Preston of Junction City, KS; Three Daughters, Kelly Preston of Belleville, IL, Nancy and husband Stoney Martin of Springdale, AR, and Cathy and husband James Tayler of Whitehouse, TX; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Walter Harrison Preston, Sr., Mother, Nancy Preston, and Wife, Gaynell Preston and his Brother, M. L. Preston.
