Memorial services for (Ret) Major Walter D. Clark, 62, of Junction City were held today at 11 a.m. at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Chapel in Topeka, KS with Chaplain Robert Roesler officiating. Mr. Clark passed away January 29, 2008 at the VA Medical Center. The family has requested that memorial contributions be given to the American Legion, Post #58, 1314 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66612. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel assisted the family with cremation arrangements.
Mr. Clark was born was on 4 November 1945 to LeRoy D. and Gladys F. (Hunter) Clark in Columbus, OH. He graduated with a BS from The Ohio State University (College of Education) in December 1967. He was a member of the Mershon Military Honor Society and a Distinguished Military Graduate. He accepted a Regular Army Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on 29 December 1967 and attended the Field Artillery Officer's Basic Course at Ft. Sill, OK. He also graduated from the Army Airborne Course, Ft. Benning, GA in 1968. He retired from the U S Army in December of 1987 after tours in Vietnam (70-71), Korea (80-81), The Sudan (84-85) and multiple tours at Ft. Riley, KS. He graduated from the Ordnance Officer's Advanced Course in 1972, and the Command and General Staff College in 1984.
After military retirement, he was selected as the Installation Maintenance Officer/Chief, Maintenance Division, DOL in April 1988 where he worked until July 1998. In July 1998 he was appointed as the Chief, Contract Business Center, DOL and served in this position until he retired on 3 December 1999. He married Peggy Lynn Ikehorn in Columbus, OH on 28 July 1968 she survives of the home.
Other survivors include six daughters; Linda Paris of Cleveland, OH, Denise Clark of Abilene, KS, Nicole Keefe and Amy Douthit both of Woodbine, KS, Kara Robinson and Abigail Clark both of Junction City, KS and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
