W. Maxine Hauser Kahrs peacefully passed away on December 10, 2012 at the Linn Community Nursing Home with her husband Delmer at her side. Graveside services will be held at 10a.m., Monday, December 17, 2012 at Indian Hills Cemetery, Chapman, KS with Deacon Rex Matney officiating. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Linn Community Nursing Home, 612 3rd Street, Linn, KS 66953.
Maxine was born in Junction City, KS the daughter of William Arthur and Eva Ola (Graham) Walter. She was raised on a farm in the Dwight community and graduated from Dwight High School. After graduation Maxine moved to Junction City where she worked in various sales positions. For several years she managed the ABC Pawn Shop and during the mid to late sixties she owned and operated a private night club. In 1970 she moved to Manhattan to become the house mother at the Acacia Fraternity house, a job she held until her marriage to Delmer Kahrs in August of 1977. She really enjoyed her years in Manhattan working with the men at the Acacia Fraternity.
Maxine was an accomplished painter, winning numerous ribbons at art exhibits. She also did fine needlepoint and embroidery making beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her husband Delmer Kahrs of Palmer, KS; her sons; W. Bruce Hauser and wife Linda of Indio, CA and Mark Hauser and wife Lina of Cheyenne, WY, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Ailene (Rollin) Newell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harold Walter, her daughter, Dona Jean Shry and one grandchild.
