Volker Willi Rudolf (Rudy) Metzler, 61, of Milford, KS, passed away on August 28, 2016. Dove Cremation and Funeral Service of Junction City, KS, is assisting the family with arrangements. A Memorial Service with full Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS 66503.
He was born on August 4, 1955, in Darmstadt, Germany, to Thomas and Marianne (Hafner) Bourke.
He joined the United States Army in Chicago, Illinois on August 29, 1977 and retired in Fort Riley, Kansas on January 31, 1997. His many Military honors and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (7th Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Parachutist Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar, Mech Badge with Wheel, and the Army Lapel Button.
He married Roswitha (Rose) Kapser on May 7, 1975 in Landstuhl, Germany. After his retirement they became residents of Milford, Kansas.
Rudy enjoyed working on cars and other mechanical projects. He loved to spoil his wife. They are now together forever.
Rudy is survived by his loving his Son, Rudolf V.T. Metzler of The U.S. Navy, Camp Pendleton, CA.
He was preceded in death by his loving Wife, Rose Metzler.
