Virginia R. Pollock, 83, of Junction City, died April 15, 2019 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Junction City. Virginia was born November 6, 1935 in Pinkneyville, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas R. and Isabelle M. (Merrick) Gladson. Virginia attended schools in Illinois and graduated from Centralia (Ill.) High School in 1953. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master's Degree in Education from Kansas State University.
Virginia taught for 23 years in U.S.D. 475, longest of which was in Westwood Elementary School.
Virginia was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, and was an active member of Circle IV of the church. She was also very active with Alpha Delta Kappa, the International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. Virginia was also a Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Leader.
Virginia married Joseph Pollock on Feb. 23, 1955 in Salem, Illinois. Joseph died April 2, 2018.
Virginia is survived by her 7 Children, Terri (Robert) Wahle of Junction City, KS, Jefferie (Cornelia) Pollock of Junction City, KS, Maureen (Dennis) McGuire of Olathe, KS, Brian (Dorette) Pollock of Lakewood, WA, Rhonda Bishop of Junction City, KS, Stephanie (Joseph) Rogers of Davidson, MI; Richard Scott (Linda) Pollock of Milford, KS; 13 Grandchildren, Steven Wahle, Jaime Richling, Michael McGuire, Dustin McGuire, Megan Cummings, Amber Allen, Angela Mapes, Conrad Rogers, Jennifer Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Nick Fields, Thomas Pollock, and Joey Pollock; and 9 Great-Grandchildren, Avery Wahle, Asher Wahle, Felix McGuire, Poppy McGuire, Keira Cummings, Jacob Lembke, Jayden Mapes, John Allen, and Nicholas Fields. She was preceded in death by her Parents, and a granddaughter, Kelly Michelle Wahle in 1981.
It was Virginia's wish to be cremated.
A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Peter O'Donnell presiding. Burial of the Ashes will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, KS. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, April 23, 2019, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City.
