Virginia M. Waters, 91, died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City, KS.
She was born August 20, 1924 on McDowell Creek in Eastern Geary County. She was the oldest and last living of the six children of Harry and Anne Hartung.
In 1944 she married Leonard Waters in Ogden, Kansas and they farmed on McDowell Creek until his death in 1982.
She is survived by six children, sons Bill Waters, Topeka, Jim and Lenny Waters, McDowell Creek, Rick Waters, Junction City and Michael Waters, Gilman, Illinois and daughter, Patti Wertzberger, Scottsdale, Arizona.
She is survived by ten grandchildren, Jim Waters, Brenda Waters, Amy Waters, Marcus Waters, Christian Waters, Damien Bramlage, Heather Rickards, Collette Lowry, Michelle Carrier and Christina Gantt.
She is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Austin Waters, Parker Waters, Klaudia Manis, Claire Lowry, Caleb Lowry, twins Ben and Max Bramlage, Grace Snyder, Hannah Snyder, Noah Snyder, Kylie Carrier and C.J. Carrier.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Marietta Tully and Leona Collins and her brothers, Leonard, Harry Leon and Danny Hartung, an infant daughter, Mary Lynn, in 1949, her grandson, Ron Bramlage and his wife Becky and her great-grandchildren, Brandon, Boston, Beau and Roxanne Bramlage in 2012
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Xavier's Church in Junction City. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Geary County Historical Society for the restoration of St. Joseph's Church on McDowell Creek or to St. Xavier's Church in Junction City.
Pallbearers will be Jim Waters, Marcus Waters, Damien Bramlage, Peter Tully, Gary Hartung and Doug Hartung.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Christian Waters.
