A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at the St. John's Cemetery for Viola Marie Gfeller, 96, Junction City. A funeral service will follow the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Matthew Glasgow officiating. A visitation will take place 6 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2008, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel 203 N. Washington Street. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church 113 W. 5th Street or the Zion United Church of Christ 1811 McFarland Rd. both in Junction City, Kansas 66441.
Viola was born March 2, 1911, in rural Geary County the daughter of Christian Ernest and Clara Marie Blanken Zumbrunn. She has lived in Geary County her entire life.
Viola was a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. She was a former member of the Humboldt HDU. She attended the Kansas City, Missouri Business College. She worked for the Junction City Daily Union for a short time. Viola lived with her father until she married Grant Robert Gfeller December 27, 1947, at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City. Grant passed away February 11, 1990.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Grant, two brothers, Clarence Albert and John Gilbert Zumbrunn and one sister, Helen Schmedemann.
She is survived by two nephews, Daryl Zumbrunn of Junction City, Ks. and Terry Zumbrunn of Phoenix. Az.; two nieces, Bonnie Thomas of Council Grove, Ks. and Janie Thelen of San Antonio, Tx.
