Funeral services for Vernona G. "Nonie" Volland, 90, of Junction City are set for 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 12, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, 804 N. Jefferson in Junction City. Reverend Paul Wolf will officiate. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Yates Center Cemetery in Yates Center, Kansas. Calling hours for Mrs. Volland will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel.
Vernona was born April 7, 1916, in Yates Center, Kansas the daughter of Charles J. and Mary E. (Wells) Peake. Mrs. Volland has lived in Junction City for forty one years having moved from Valley Falls, Kansas.
Vernona was a homemaker and an Avon Representative. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City, Chapter GO of the P.E.O Sisterhood, Junction City Ladies Reading Club, Grandmother's Club, Melita Chapter of the O.E.S and several bridge clubs.
She married Virgil A. Volland June 16, 1939, in Emporia, Kansas. He passed away October 18, 1985.
Other survivors include one son Charles Volland and his wife Katharyn of Junction City and one granddaughter Jill-Elizabeth Nelson and her husband David of Junction City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Byron J. Peake, one daughter Barbara Sue Volland and one great grandson Luke David Nelson.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Junction City.
