Verna was born on January 26, 1939, in Wiley, Colorado, to Delmer and Frieda (Boese) Schwartz. She grew up in Wiley and graduated Wiley High School in 1957. After graduation she attended college in McPherson. She later met Pete Meyer and they wed on October 3, 1958. They lived on a farm in Hodgeman County where they raised their son (Steve). Pete passed on November 6, 1977. After his passing, Verna moved to Kinsley. She began working as a hospital administrator in Spearville, Kansas. There she met and married Dr. (Ret. Col.) Walter McKim on April 2, 1981. They later moved to Milford, Kansas, in 1983.
Verna was a member of many organizations including but not limited to: CASA Director; Kansas Republican Women (One Time Head); Geary County Health Department and Fair Board; The Ladies Reading Club of Junction City; and The Milford Parks and Recreation.
She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother/great-grandmother/great-great grandmother. She was everyone's mom and grandma. If there was a child that did not have a grandparent present on grandparents day, she was there to be with them. She had so much love to give and discipline to teach. Verna's wisdom will be remembered by all. In her eyes all people are equal.
She will be dearly missed.
Verna is survived by her Four Sons, Steven (Gloria) Meyer of Milford, KS, David (Jill) McKim of Milford KS, Daniel McKim of OR, and Michael (Nichole) Schwartz of Manhattan, KS; Daughter Karen McKim of CA. She is also survived by numerous Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Pete Meyer (1958-1977) and Walter L. McKim (1981-2009), parents, Delmer & Frieda Schwartz, and brother Ronald Schwartz.
