Funeral services for Vergene Ermal Hayter, 87, formerly of Junction City, KS will be Saturday, January 28, 2006, 2 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington with Reverend Joyce Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Enterprise, KS. Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2006, 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Mrs. Hayter passed away at Lakewood Senior Living Center, Pratt, KS, January 24, 2006. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1130, Fairfax, VA 22038-1130.
Mrs. Hayter was born August 20, 1918, Chapman, KS to Arnold and Erma Grace (Heller) Rutz. She graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1936. She married Earl F. Hayter June 1, 1937, Junction City, KS, he preceded her in death August 20, 2005.
Mrs. Hayter was a bookkeeper and a homemaker, she was an avid China Painter, artist and bowler and a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Rimrock China Painter's, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the National American Diabetes Association.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin F. Hayter and wife Gayle of Pratt, KS and Earl E. Hayter and wife Carol of Manford, OK, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Ida Rutz, two brothers, Robert Rutz and Donald Rutz.
Pallbearers will be Edwin F. Hayter, Earl E. Hayter, Henry Rutz, Jason B. Hayter, Earl A. Hayter and Jeremy Dear
Honorary Pallbearer will be Larry Peterson
