Vera Helen Nicholson, 88 of Junction City, passed away on July 19, 2004 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2004 at the St. Xavier Catholic Church with the burial at St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel with the vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Father Al Brungardt will officiate. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders, P.O. Box 1427, Topeka, KS 66601 and/or the St. Xavier Catholic Church, 218 N. Washington, Junction City, KS. 66441.
Vera was born July 27, 1915 in Clay Center, KS, the daughter of Benjamin Thomas and Josephine Helen Sherbert Nye. She graduated in 1933 from Wakefield Rural High School. After graduation she attended and graduated from Salina School of Cosmetology in 1938. She worked in Chapman, KS for a short time. She retired in 1985 after working as a beautician for 39 years out of her home. She was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church, The Alter Society, Circle 4 and the Historical Society.
She met Bernard James Nicholson and married him on July 11, 1942, Chapman, KS, he preceded her in death September 13, 1996.
She is survived by; three children, Patrick Nicholson of Grandview Plaza, Kay Field of Junction City and Sheila Waymire of Junction City, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Helen Meyers of Wakefield and Dorothy Caylor of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Julia Stires (Sept. 19, 1992) and one sister, Marion Billingham.
Pallbearers will be Jim Stires, Jack Field, Roger Lawson, Sean Stires, Ryan Edney and Brady Martin.
