Private Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Fort Riley Cemetery for Velma J. Jansen, 83, Junction City. No visitation is planned. Mrs. Jansen passed away August 12, 2006 at Geary Community Hospital. The family requests no memorials or flowers be sent. Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Velma was born August 6, 1923 in Victoria, KS the daughter of Carl and Julia (Riedel) Schumacher.
Velma worked at the Junction City Telephone Company, which became United Telephone Company in 1968, from 1955 until she retired in 1988.
Velma married Raymond T. Jansen on October 21, 1942 in Junction City, KS. He preceded her in death September 9, 1968.
Survivors include her son, Raymond T. Jansen II and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Arlene Dunn and Dolores Bright, one brother Donald Schumacher.
