Vanda Concetta Bell (Bonavia)

September 17, 1929 — May 1, 2020

Vanda Concetta Bell (Bonavia) , formerly of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on May 1, 2020.

Vanda was born on September 17, 1929, in Trieste, Italy, to Victorio and Margherita Bonavia. Vanda was studying journalism at the time of the WWII breaking out. Life then changed. She met a US Army Soldier (James Nairn Bell) who was stationed in Italy. They married February 28, 1955 in Salzburg, Austria. Of this union, one daughter was born, Patrizia. The family spent many years posted in Germany and Italy. During James' postings in Korea and Vietnam, the family remained mainly in Europe with some time spent in Junction City, Kansas in connection with Ft. Riley. James and Vanda retired in Junction City Kansas due to James' ill health.

For nearly 30 years, Vanda dedicated herself to working at Valley View Nursing Home as a nurse aide. She loved her job and was very devoted. She loved the friends and co-workers she had in Junction City. For relaxation she always enjoyed all the various Bingo venues and the many friends who joined her at places like the Eagles.

Vanda had many close friends, some Italian such as family Hurst whom she had known in Trieste. Friends such as these created a special support network after James' passing in 1998. Rose Davis and her sister Pat Davis of Kansas City, KS were of constant support all the way to Vanda's last days. Patrizia is extremely grateful for all they did to ensure Vanda had regular visits in Kansas City and always felt looked after.

Vanda is survived by her daughter, Patrizia Banner (Bell), who lives in Marrakech, Morocco, Patrizia's husband Frederic and his son Jeremy, along with a host of loving friends.

As her wish, she will join James at Ft. Riley Military Cemetery as her last resting place.
