Valerie Terzi, 53, St. George, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church, 218 N. Washington St. in Junction City with Fr. Al Brungardt officiating. No visitation has been planned. Burial will follow at the Humboldt Creek Cemetery.
She was born February 9th, 1959, in Geary County and was raised on a farm on Humboldt Creek. She graduated from St. Xaviers High School, Junction City, KS in 1977. From there, she went on to study Elementary Education at Kansas State University.
Ms. Terzi volunteered as a catechist educator at Seven Dolars Catholic Church. Later she worked at Alltel Communications for several years, earning a rare Peak Achievement award in honor of her outstanding customer service. She also worked as an AT&T Customer Service trainer at Alorica Inc.
She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan, KS. She was extraordinarily devout to her faith and to the pro-life movement, writing many featured columns for the National Catholic Register.
Valerie raised two sons, to whom she devoted her life to, as well as her family and friends. She was a loving grandmother of four, to whom she committed most of her time and efforts towards in the last eight years of her life.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Terzi of Wamego, KS and Paul Terzi of Manhattan, KS; three sisters, Anita Schmedemann of Dwight, KS, Cherie Minkowitz of Germantown, NY, and Dorothy Root Smith of Manhattan, KS; as well as one brother Ralph Schmedemann of Acton, ME; four grandchildren, Sophia & Aubrielle Terzi of Wamego, KS and Jude and Noah Terzi of Manhattan, KS.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Etta and Ralph "Bud" Schmedemann of Dwight, KS, her brother Pete "The Greek" Charowhas of Junction City, KS, as well as her grandmother Dorothy Monaco of New York.
It was Valerie's wishes that memorial contributions be made to her grandchildren at the time of the service or mailed to her son, Thomas Terzi 206 Ash, Wamego, KS 66547, or a donation can be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
