Tyrone was born on November 11, 1956, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was lovingly raised by his aunt, Lillie Ann Faison, who was also his adopted mother. Growing up, he was very active in sports. His favorites were football, track, and field. He was dedicated to helping others in the neighborhood reach their potential in sports. He also helped others with determining their post high school career choices. He wanted others to achieve their life goals and gave guidance on how to do so. As a young man, he joined the United States Army. While in the military, he found time to participate in coaching and mentoring competitive league basketball in the early 80's. Winning tournaments became a personal theme. While in the service, he met his wife, Jovina, while stationed in Panama in 1977.

Tyrone enjoyed his free time. He loved fishing at Milford Lake and Tuttle Creek Spillways. His favorite fish to catch was catfish and he loved to express his high skill level to friends and family via pictures or actual proof. He was always ready for the next trip and/or relaxing event with friends. He enjoyed playing pool with friends, playing board games and card games, and watching sports. His pro football team was the Washington Redskins. In the case of pro basketball, his loyalty lay with whatever team LaBron James was playing for. He was a family man, very supportive in family events, sharing his wisdom, and taking time to just be there.
