Funeral services for Trong Thi "Thu" Watkins, 64, of Junction City will be held at 10 a.m.,Friday, September 10, 2010 with Rev. Dr. Kenton Van officiating at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. She will be laid to rest at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Manhattan, KS. Thu's family will have a private viewing. Memorial contributions have been designated to the American Heart Association, 5375 SW 7th St., Topeka, KS 66606. The family request that all flowers and cards be sent to the funeral home.
Thu was born August 26, 1946 in Hoc Mon, Vietnam. She was kissed goodbye on September 4, 2010 by her loving husband John (Mike) Watkins, son, Jerry Hughston, daughter, Kathy (Hughston) Posey, daughter-in-law, Shannon (Snyder) Hughston and son-in-law, Brent Posey. She will also forever be missed by six grandsons; Kiefer (19), Kolby (18), Ian (17), Daniel (16), Kristian (14), and Tyler (8) and one granddaughter Taylor (9).
For those who knew her, Thu was a kind and fierce woman. She came to America in 1971 with her newborn son. Thu taught herself to drive and to read and write English quickly. Thu worked at the NCO Club on Ft. Riley, KS for 16 years. In 1989 she became the owner of The Malibu Club on the corner of 6th and Washington in Junction City, KS. Later in life she worked at Kansas State University from 1997-2006 at Haymaker and Goodnow Hall where she was loved by many students. Thu medically retired in 2006.
