Funeral services for Tommie E. Ashley, 80, Junction City will be 10:00am Monday, February 2, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel, 805 Caroline with Rev, Audrey Toombs officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Ashley passed away January 28, 2009 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Sunday February 1, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel.
Tommie was born August 23, 1928 in Omaha, TX to John and Ophelia (Young) Oakry.
Tommie began working at Fort Riley, KS for Civil Service in 1955 and retired after 33 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing Bingo, and working in her flower garden.
She was preceded in death by her first husband T.C. Chism, parents, John and Ophelia Oakry, brothers John D. Oakry, Jr., Ulysses Oakry, sisters, Gladeen Richardson and Connie Grant.
In 1972 Tommie married Nelson Ashley. She is survived by her husband Nelson, son Charles Chism (fiancee, Janice) daughters Mildred Montgomery, (fiance, Bob), Janice, (Al) Rolls, sister Marcelle Adams, Stepchildren Scotty Ashley and Casandra Harris, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces , nephews and friends.
