Thula Roberts, 96, of Junction City, died Friday, November 24, 2017 at her home in Junction City. Thula was born November 4, 1921 in Wharton, Texas the daughter of Willie L. and Bessie (Paul) Brown. Thula grew up in Wharton and attended Wharton schools.
Thula worked several jobs in her home-town of Wharton while she was growing up, but after she was married, she was a full-time mother and homemaker. She and her family moved to Junction City in 1959, as her husband was in the U.S. Army. She was a devoted member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Junction City.
Thula married Emanuel Roberts, Sr.on December 25, 1946 in Wharton, Texas. Emanuel died December 18, 2001.
Survivors include: 2 sons, Emanuel Roberts, Jr. and his wife Mary, and Arthur P. Roberts, all of Junction City; 2 daughters, Arlene Lacy and Bessie Martin, both of Junction City; 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Thula was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and 2 sons, Jessie Roberts and John Roberts.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Penwell-Gabel Junction City Chapel, 203 N. Washington, Junction City, with Dr. Larry Jones presiding. Burial will follow at the Ft. Riley Post Cemetery, Ft. Riley. The family will greet friends on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
