Thomas B. Oakley, 60, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka. A public visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation. A public memorial service will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Shenk Gymnasium at the Junction City High School. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and white (Bluejay) attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Geary Community Schools Foundation in the name of Thomas Oakley for something to be earmarked for future Bluejays. Memorials may be sent c/o Geary Community Schools Foundation, 900 N. Eisenhower Drive Junction City, KS 66441.
Thomas was born April 2, 1961, in Junction City, KS the son of John Douglas and Dorothy Mae (Smith) Oakley.
Thomas worked for U.S.D # 475 for thirty eight years. He was awarded the "Shining Star" award in 1995. The majority of his school career was spent at Junction City High School. He touched the lives of many students and teachers. He was a mentor to many. Thomas always had a smile and word of encouragement for teachers and students. Thomas attended all sporting events at Junction City High School. He was a Bluejay for life!
Thomas graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1979. He attended Emporia State University where he ran track. He enjoyed many sports where he spent time working as a referee and coaching various sports. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed western movies. Many times, Tamara would wake up in the middle of the night to gun fire coming from the television. Most of all, Thomas enjoyed spending time with family and playing with the grandkids.
Thomas married Tamara Lowman-Lucero September 27, 1991 in Junction City.
Survivors include his wife Tamara of the home in Junction City, KS; two sons, Christopher Zane Lucero and his wife Jennifer of Junction City, KS and Travis Oakley of GA; two daughters, Angela Jacobson and her husband Kevin of Pelican Lake, WI and Amanda Lucero of Derby, KS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one due any day. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
