Thomas Michael Eakes

Thomas Michael Eakes, 59, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on November 16, 2019. Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
A Memorial Mass will be held on December 15, 2019, 10:00am at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, 221 S. Juliette Ave., Manhattan, KS, 66502 with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating.
Thomas was born on April 16, 1960, in Salina, Kansas, to Sylvester and Carmen (Swaim) Eakes. He grew up in the Salina, Manhattan, and Wakefield areas and graduated from Wakefield High School. He went on to study medicine, but then decided with the changes and advances associated with that profession, there would be little to no time for him to spend with his family. Being a dedicated family person, he left the medical field of studies and worked in the family business, T&J Sheet Metal, HVAC, and Plumbing, in general contracting. He married and later divorced. Of that relationship, he had two children who he dearly loved.
Thomas was admired by all that knew him. He always carried a positive attitude no matter the circumstance.
He will be dearly missed.
Thomas is survived by his loving family: his mother Carmen Eakes of Wakefield, KS; his son, Tyler Michael Eakes of Manhattan, KS; his daughter, Erika Kristin Eakes of Manhattan, KS; his granddaughter Cadence Eakes; his brother, John Eakes of Wakefield, KS; his nephew Shon Michael Eakes; and a host of loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Peter Eakes.
