A Funeral mass for Thomas Curtis Ballowe 79, CSM (Retired) will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2005 at St. Xavier's Catholic Church with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Riley Post Cemetery. Mr. Ballowe passed away July 24, 2005 at Geary Community Hospital. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel with a vigil service to be recited at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Xavier's Catholic Church 218 N. CSM Ballowe was born November 11, 1925 at New Frankfort, MO the son of LeRobie and Alpha Miles Ballowe. He entered the Army from Missouri on December 27, 1943 and retired at Fort Riley on September 30, 1972 with 28 years of active service. He later served for two years as Clerk of the District Court for Geary County, Kansas then eight years as Protocol Officer for the First Infantry Division and Fort Riley, during the period of August 1983 through January 1991.
He was a member of St. Xavier's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Noon Kiwanis.
He married Mary Louise Mitchell while in the military service at St. Louis, MO on May 30, 1948. She survives at the home.
Also surviving are four daughters, Brenda VanHoesen, Suzetta Floberg, and Sonja Pierson all of Junction City and Cheryl Darby of Independence, MO, two sons, Lionel Ballowe of Lusby, MD and Craig Ballowe of Hutchinson, KS, eight grandchildren and two great -grandchildren, one sister, Neomia and two brothers, Donald and Johnny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
