Tellis E. Brown, 74 of Junction City, passed away on Sun., June 13, 2004 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Mon., June 21, 2004 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with the burial at Fort Riley Cemetery with military honors. Pastor Leonard Gray will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m., Sun., June 20, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 5375 SW 7th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66606 and/or the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 701 W. 10th Street, Junction City, Kansas 66441.
Mr. Brown was born on April 8, 1930 in Nacogdoches, TX, the son of Johnnie and Inez (Colston) Brown. He moved to the Junction City area in 1952.
He retired from the military with the rank of Master Sergeant and also civil service. He also worked as an agent for Century 21 realtors for twelve years until retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, Masonic lodge (JG&Soanes Lodge #105 in Abilene, KS) and the Lion's Club. He had graduated from Manhattan Christian College and Brown Mackie College.
He married Arnita Price on Sept. 1, 1949 in St. Augustine, TX. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Shirley M. Self of Norwalk, CT, Sharon K. Davis of Dallas, TX, and Sheila A. Cox of Junction City, KS; one brother, George Brown of Orange, TX; two sisters, Alviezola Lembrick of Oakland, CA, and Lois Sowell of Denver, CO.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a host of adopted children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Tellis Earl Brown, Jr.; one daughter, Earline Brown; one brother, John L. Brown; and one sister, Larissa Teagle.
Military honors will be presented by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Organist will be Frances Clark.
