Funeral services for SFC (Ret) Teddy Jr. Hanmer, 79, of Junction City, KS will be 1 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street with Father Al Brungardt officiating. Military honors will follow at Kansas Veteran's Cemetery. Teddy passed away December 13, 2009 at Valley View Senior Life Center in Junction City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Teddy was born March 17, 1930 in Rockford, IL to Theodore and Dorothy (Schraber) Hanmer. He joined the U.S. Army in 1948 and retired in 1969. He made his home in Junction City, KS.
He worked as a Band Master at St. John's Military School in Salina, KS for 7 years. After leaving St. John's Military School he worked for Pepsi, Inc. Due to illness that left him disabled he ended his working career.
Teddy really enjoyed life and family. He was a proud Veteran of the U S Army. He received the Master Parachute Badge; Good Conduct Medal w/4 Bronze Loops; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Sharpshooter Badge (Carbine); Expert Badge (Carbine); Two OS Bars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45 for 35 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Tommie Hanmer, three sisters, Janet Van Derheyden and husband Alan; Donna Lambin and husband Ed; and Yvonnie Wolking, all of IL. He is also survived by five sons and one daughter, Michael Hanmer; Donald Hanmer; David Hanmer; Perry Hanmer; Daniel Hanmer; and Nancy Steelman, two step-sons and two step-daughters, Leonard Arveson of Manhattan, KS, Edward Arveson and wife Regina Arveson of Tamecula, CA, Ann Sawicki and husband Wayne Sawicki of Junction City, KS and Brenda Arveson of Junction City, KS, several grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a step-daughter.
