On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the beautiful age of 101 years old, Mrs. Suzanne Smith Cole passed away peacefully in her sleep at Valley View Senior Center.
Mrs. Cole was born, March 30, 1918, to Will and Katie Mai Smith in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the eldest daughter of eight children (four boys and four girls). After high school, she attended Beauty School. She worked as a beautician in Nashville, TN and Toledo, OH. She was married to Dr. George E. Cole, a pharmacist who practiced in Toledo, OH. After he passed away in 1972, she returned to Nashville, TN where she worked for the State of Tennessee and eventually retired. She was a hard worker, loved fashion, and enjoyed being outdoors in her yard. She was a great neighbor and loved her family.
In February 2009, she moved to Junction City, KS to be near her brother, Elliott Smith, and his family due to declining health and the onset of Alzheimer's disease. She was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday on March 30, 2018 surrounded by her Kansas family, church friends, and nursing home staff. The nursing home staff affectionately called her Mama Sue.
Mrs. Suzanne Smith Cole leaves to cherish her memory: her brother Elliott Smith and his wife Barbara J. Smith of Junction City, KS and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. George E. Cole; her parents, Will and Katie Mai Smith; and six of her siblings: Dayton Smith, Jim Smith, Clemestine McKay, Don Q. Smith, Glennella Williams, and Kiwanis Hatchett; as well as other loved ones.
