Summer Arionne Bennett, 42, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place 2 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at New Church of the Living God with Pastor James E. Johnson officiating.
Summer was born January 10, 1979, in Frankfurt, Germany the daughter of Essie Fort, JR. and LaVerne Gerlinde Grant.
Summer lived and attended schools in Germany and Colorado, prior to calling Junction City home. She graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1997 where was a member of the Army JROTC program. She graduated from Kansas State University in 2005 with a degree in social work. She worked for Computing and Telecommunications Services and the Veterinarians Hospital, before moving on to become the social services administrator at New Directions. She then later went to work as a case worker for Irwin Army Community Hospital with the Warrior Transition Battalion.
She was a member of the Mu Eta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and also attended New Church of the Living God.
She was united in marriage to Chad Bennett on July 3, 2000 at the Fellowship Temple in Manhattan, KS.
Survivors include her loving husband Chad of the home in Junction City; two sons, Noah and Gabriel Bennett both of Junction City; one sister, Autumn Fort of Junction City; twin brothers, Jarrod (Maelene) Smith and Jordan Smith both of Junction City; Father, Essie Fort of Columbus, MS; mother in law, Patsy Bennett of Flint, MI; sister in laws Gena Baybars of Wichita; brother in laws, Antonio(Wendi) Bennett SR of Manhattan, James Bennett of Cassville, MO; 7 nephews, KeyShawn Bentley of Junction City, Dilon and Jesse Bennett both of Warrensburg, MO, Antonio Bennett JR of Independence, MO, Jordan Smith, JR. of Junction City and Josiah and Jalen Martinez of Junction City; 2 nieces, Kandice Haile of Waterville, and Amelia Smith of Junction City; aunts, uncles and host of other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother LaVerne Grant-Smith, step-father Barry Smith and father in law, Ronald Bennett, grandmother's Helga Grant and Anna Mae Fort, grandfather's Robert Grant and Essie Fort SR.
