A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Junction City Nazarene Church, 1325 W. Ash Street for Stephen B. Field, 66, Junction City. Reverend Jim Bond will officiate. A visitation will be 6 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Funeral Chapel, 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Balch Cemetery near Formoso, Kansas in rural Jewell County. Mr. Field passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Midland Hospice House. Memorial contributions may be given to the Midland Hospice House, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
Stephen was born September 26, 1942, in Formoso, Kansas the son of Banks and Delilah (Brewer) Field.
Stephen worked at the Milford State Park as a Park Ranger from 1966 until 1986. He later went to work for the State of Kansas Wildlife and Parks as a Game Warden from 1986 until his retirement in 2006. He always said he had the greatest job in the world! He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an avid member and contributor of the Ducks Unlimited. Stephen served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He served in the 1st Engineering Battalion with the 1st Infantry Division as a demolition expert.
On April 12, 1986, he married Aurie Edwards at their home in Junction City. She passed away at their home June 25, 2007.
Stephen is survived by one son, Dana Field and his wife Melinda of Silver Lake, Kan. Other survivors include two step-sons, Carl McNamara of Parker, CO and Patrick McNamara of Pampano Beach, FL and three sisters, Ruth Berneking of Formoso, Kan, Audrey Gibson of Smith Center, Kan and Margaret Dellett of Eldorado, Kan. Stephen is survived by three granddaughters, Ellyn, Catherine and Madelyn Field of Silver Lake, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
