Stephany Lynn Walker

Stephany Lynn Walker, 73, of Milford, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Stephany was born April 3, 1944 in Junction City, the daughter of Lester F. and Vera L.(Schultz) York. Stephany grew up in Junction City and attended Junction City Schools, graduating from Junction City High School in 1962. She later attended Topeka Technical College in Topeka.

During high school, Stephany was very active in 4-H and had a great love for horses. She was well known for her baton twirling skills to include throwing flame batons.

Stephany worked many years for Sherwin Williams in Junction City as an interior decorator and designer. She worked at Lincoln School as the School Secretary for many years and also worked for Water's Hardware as a cashier.

Stephany also served as a budget technician at Fort Belvoir, VA, Panama, the Pentagon, and the Enlisted Directorate of the Military Personnel Center.

After retiring from Civil Service she worked as a Paraprofessional at Key School in Northern Virginia and Eisenhower School in Junction City.

Stephany was a member of NARFE (National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees), the ladies Red Hat Society, and Friends of Animals. She loved to go camping, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to various locations, both stateside and overseas.

Stephany married James L. "Jim" Walker on May 3, 1975 in Junction City, where they met. He survives of the home. Other survivors include: 2 daughters, Michelle Oesterhaus and her husband Reggie, Clay Center, and Brenda Barbour and her husband Steve, Leawood; a brother, Jeff York and his wife Kathy, Junction City; a sister, Jennifer Haslett, Manhattan; grandchildren Jacob, John, and Joe Knitter, Alyssa, Lauren, and Olivia Barbour, and Crystal Barnes; and 1 great grandson, Mason Knitter. Stephany was preceded in death by her parents.

It was Stephany's wish to be cremated.

The family will greet friends 1:00 p.m-3:00 p.m, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at the Junction City Church of the Nazarene in Junction City. A private family committal service will occur at a later date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan.
