Stanley D. McClelland, 61, a resident of Ft. Riley/Junction City since 1986, passed away Thursday Sept. 30, 2010. Stan was born in Tulare, CA and grew up in Fallon, NV. He was drafted into the Army in 1969 and retired in 1993.
Stan was a highly decorated soldier serving in Vietnam and the Gulf of War in 1991. After retiring Stan worked for the City of Junction City for 11 years. Stan enjoyed fishing, sports, art, motorcycles, and was an active member of the American Legion and Elk's Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, of 40 years, Kathy; son, Thad (and his wife Audra, son Trey, and daughter Alexis) of Olathe, KS, his son Jared (and his wife Angelica, and soon to be daughter Paighton) of Junction City; a sister Diane Umland, of NV and several other relatives in CA and NV.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 2010 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. A memorial service, with Rev. Joe Belardo officiating, will be held with full military honors at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan.
