CW3 (Ret) Stanley E. Birge, 88, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Junction City, Kansas. Cremation will take place. A graveside service with full military honors will take place 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the American Heart Association.
Stanley was born on September 9, 1935, Booneville, Missouri the son of Alfred and Sarah (Stevens) Birge.
Stanley served in the United States Army and retired November of 1975. He served during two tours of Vietnam. He was stationed in Korea, Germany and many times at Fort Riley that ultimately became his home after retirement. Prior to joining the United States Army, Stanley was an ordained Baptist Preacher. He served small churches in Missouri.
Stanley enjoyed gardening, cooking, collecting antiques and fishing.
On August 23, 1953, he married Creola Mae Johnston. Creola passed away February 28, 2018.
Stanley is survived by one son, Curt D. (Deborah) Birge of Moberly, Missouri; two daughters, Beverly S. (Greg) Edlin of Milford, Kansas and Barbara L. (Ron) Guffey of Junction City, Kansas; two sisters, Glenda Crutchfield of Moberly, Missouri and Sandra Burris (Francis) of Camdenton, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Martha Birge of Moberly, Missouri; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Creola; one brother, Russell Birge and infant sister, Myrtle Irene Birge.
