SSG (RET) Jesse E. Hurst, 80, of Junction City, KS passed away on October 1, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Health Care Center, Topeka, KS. Cremation has taken place and Graveside services will be held with full military honors at 10a.m., Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been designated to the Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 580, Junction City, KS 66441.
Jesse was born June 28, 1932, Thomasville, GA to Jesse E. and Clara (Collins) Hurst, Sr.
He joined the U S Army August 12, 1949 and served in Vietnam. During his tenure in the Army he received the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge, Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Two Overseas Bars, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, National Defense Service Medal w/1st Oak Leaf Cluster and the Vietnam Service Medal. He retired as SSG from Fort Benning, GA on May 31, 1970. He was very proud of his time served for his country.
He then worked in electronics for Contract Services Incorporated at Fort Riley for over fifteen years. He enjoyed spending time with his family fishing, gardening and woodworking and he loved his dog "Mikey".
He is survived by his wife, Bruna Hurst of Junction City, KS, four sons; Jesse E. Hurst, III (Kim) of Cottage Hills, IL, Ronald E. Hurst (Suk) of Tacoma, WA, Rusty Hurst of Junction City, KS and James E. Hurst (Kelly) of Dwight, KS, he is also survived by one daughter, Rita Hurst of Manhattan, KS, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jo and grandson, Eric.
