Junction City

SSG (RET) George Michael "Mike" Parks, 76, of Junction City, Kansas died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.

A funeral will take place at 12 o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at JCNAZ 1025 S. Washington Street with Pastor Mark Hatcher officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 22, 2025 at Johnson and Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home located at 203 N. Washington Street.

Mike was born April 8, 1949, in Centralia, Illinois the son of Henry Earl and Christine Louisa (Stonecipher) Parks, Jr.

Mike served in the United States Army until his retirement. During his military career, he was an aircraft maintenance quality control inspector assigned to the Big Red One. After his retirement, he worked various jobs in the Junction City area that included working at the Amoco gas station on South Washington Street, Walmart, Auto Zone and Waters Hardware. He also worked as a security guard on Fort Riley and the Flint Hills Job Corp Center.

Mike enjoyed his dogs and watching western movies and Star Trek. His greatest past time was sitting in his garage visiting with people and taking daily trips to Stacy's Restaurant. He always enjoyed striking up a conversation with anyone that wanted to talk about helicopters.

On November 23, 2002, he married Mary Barry in Junction City, Kansas.

Survivors include wife Mary of Junction City, Kansas; one son, Michael Parks and his wife Jennifer of Noblesville, Indiana; one daughter, Cynthia (Parks) Sinklier and her significant other Matthew Paquette of Chapman, Kansas; one step-son, Ken Barry and his wife Jamie of Edgerton, Kansas and one step-daughter, Toni Peters and her husband Roy "Wayne" of Junction City, Kansas; sixteen grandchildren, Courtney, Tyler, Colton, Allison, Jake, Carly, Jonah, Cameron "Tanner", TrudyAnn, Emmett, Layla, Jennia, Ava, Jackson, Hunter and Brooke; two great-granddaughters, Harper and Stella; two brothers, Randy and Steven Parks; two daughters from his first marriage, Doris Sotu Ayers of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee and Denise Torres of Chandler, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his late wife Janet in 2002.
