Sofie (Spath) Vallon of Junction City, Kansas was born on February 16, 1933 and departed this life to begin a new one with her Lord and Savior on November 18th, 2012.
Sofie was born to Josef Spath and loving wife Franziska of Eschlkam, Germany. Her father was a butcher in the small village where they lived and her mother a homemaker. She was raised along with 19 of her loving siblings in a small home above the family shop. She enjoyed taking care of the geese and sheep on the hills near Eschlkam. She met and married Richard Vallon, who was serving in the United States Military in Munich, Germany. They later moved to the United States and were stationed at numerous duty stations before settling in Junction City, Kansas in 1967 with their 3 children before divorcing. She later met Hobart Hicks who remained her life companion and partner until his death in September of 2012. Also preceding her in death are her parents, several of her siblings, best friend Helga Dietrich and many other special friends.
Sofie made her living as a cook at the Pancake House, AAFES on post at Fort Riley, Denny's of Junction City and finally as a hostess at McDonald's Restaurant in Junction City. She was well known and loved by every customer and person that had the good fortune of meeting her. She retired in the mid-1990's and became a homemaker with her children and Mr. Hicks being a central part of her life. She had several hobbies including cooking the most wonderful meals and collecting angels but her greatest pride was her collection of baby dolls. She was so very proud of her 'babies' and enjoyed showing them off to anyone who dropped by to visit.
Sofie will be missed by her two sons: Joe Vallon of Council Grove and Larry and his wife Melinda Vallon of Junction City, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi Vallon and Errin Mahan. Also left grieving are her five grandchildren: Joey, Heidi (Deede), Michael, Elizabeth, and Neil Vallon. She also leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren: Jason, Chase, Jade, Adam, Aiden, and Natalie as well her special nephew Lorenz (Annerl) Spath. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and extended family both here and abroad.
A visitation will be held on Monday evening November 26th, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St. in Junction City.
