Homegoing services for Silas Smith, III, 61 of Junction City will be Friday, August 20, 2010 at 1:00pm at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 701 W. 10th St., with the Reverend, Dr. Leonard Gray officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6-8 pm at the Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel; 805 Caroline Ave. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 208 S. LaSalle St., Suite 1500, Chicago, IL 60604. Mr. Smith passed away on August 16, 2010 at Geary Community Hospital.
Silas was born August 31, 1948 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Silas and Willie Mae (Jones) Smith, Jr. He has lived in Junction City the majority of his life.
He worked construction as a cement finisher at Fort Riley. He also worked for Smith Pest Control Services along with his father. Silas loved fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
Silas is survived by a granddaughter, Krystal Smith of Junction City, and a great-granddaughter Da'Nia Ringo of Junction City. Three sisters, Ardette Phillips of Junction City, Linda Murphy (Willie) of Junction City and Debra Bevier of Topeka. Five brothers, Harold Smith of Tulsa, OK, Johnnie Smith (Carolyn), Howard Smith, Richard Smith and Michael Smith all of Junction City. An Aunt Juanita Proutt of Junction City. A host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Brenda Smith, parents, a daughter Michelle Smith-Goodwin, one brother, Russell Smith, two sisters, Lillie Smith and Brenda Smith-Stewart.
