A Celebration of Life service for Sidney B. Hawkins, 53 of Junction City will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, 203 N. Washington St., with Charles Finger officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will take place at Nutbush Church Cemetery, Henderson, North Carolina. Mr. Hawkins passed away on March 21, 2011 at his home. A Celebration of Life service for Sidney B. Sidney attended school in Henderson, NC, graduating from Vance Senior High School in 1977. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army where he served in Germany, Korea and the Gulf War. At an early age, he joined the Nutbush Baptist Church, where he sang on the Choir. At the time of his death, he served faithfully at the Morris Hill Gospel Service,Fort Riley, Kansas as Manager and member of the Gospel and Men's choirs; the Hospitality Auxiliary; Finance Secretary of the ParishCouncil, and a member of Brothers' Keeper Men's Ministry. Sidney wasemployed as a Supply Specialist (CTR AFSBFR) at Fort Riley.
Sidney was a devoted father, brother, uncle and cousin. He leaves his memories to a daughter, Martina B. Hawkins and granddaughter, Alana A. Hawkins of Kingstreet, SC; his mother, Dorothy M.Vincent of Henderson, NC; brothers, Johuntas Hawkins (Alfreda) of Henderson NC, Henry Patrick Hawkins of Oxford NC; a sister, Geraldine Hawkins, of Henderson NC, one great-great Aunt, Mildred Durham, of Rahway, NJ; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.He will always be remembered best for his stylish way of dressing.Sidney will truly be missed by all who loved and knew him.
